However spells and fire have no effect on the soldiers because they are protected by a magician. Slowly and systematically they tore through the ranks of the men and killed scores of them. All too son the fighting stopped and the keep started to open and a horse and rider came out with what looked to be a common lance, but it was not for it was constructed out of a strange green material. Before Eragon could say a spell to stop the rider the elves created a gap in the road that the horse fell into. However before the rider fell too he threw the lance at Saphira and it went right through her ward and penetrated her chest. Luckily for Eragon the elves attended to Saphira and healed her. It turned out the lance is called a dauthdart and it is of elven make and its one purpose is for killing dragons. While Eragon, Arya and Blodgharm, the leader of the elves, talk a crack forms on the castle and as the castle starts to collapse Eragon's brother Roran is behind the wall as it comes down.
